Abstract:
Single junction Si solar cell is the most convenient and cost-effective photovoltaic cell but has restriction in the efficiency. Globally in this field, everyone is trying to utilize renewable energy and introduced the upgraded model of solar cell – multi-junction solar cell. The comparison between the single junction solar cell and the multi-junction solar cell and also designing the model of an effective cell is the purpose of this thesis. The main focus is on the dual junction solar cell as the illustration of a multijunction solar cell. The entire analysis is done by TCAD simulation tool. Concentrating on the bandgap of the dual-junction solar cell, it found more effective in the comparison of the single junction solar cell. This thesis represents the improvement of InGaP-GaAs dual junction solar cell by introducing a new back surface material AlGaAs and also considering the doping concentration of wider bandgap InGaP. The findings of this thesis show that with a new BSF material (AlGaAs), InGaP-GaAs dual junction solar cell can reach 40.02% efficiency. This demonstrates that a significant amount of efficiency can be achieved by III-V multi-junction solar cell.
Description:
In this wonderful journey of intensive learning, at first and foremost we would like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to our respected thesis supervisor Yeasir Arafat Sir, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, BUET, for his immense support, guidance and encouragement throughout the long period. We are grateful not only for supervising with initial guidance that opens the door for thesis but also introducing us with various software and inspiring us to learn them which can be used for lot of other purposes ahead. We are also thankful for the fact that his substantial amount of research and study in PV solar cell and hetero junctions inspired us to work in this particular area. So far we learnt a lot related to this topic due to his motivation. We are fortunate for his ever ready attitude to render help in his busy schedule of multiple important tasks.
During the work progress in thesis his insight was invaluable in clarifying issues regarding the use of TCAD simulation tools. Again we are fortunate to get his academic theory class on hetero junction and semiconductor and we are grateful for that as it helped a lot in our field of topic. We had great experience of pleasure and knowledge to work under his supervision for the accomplishment of this thesis dissertation. As a teacher and mentor he taught more than we can give credit for. We are also very grateful to our Department of EECE, MIST for its excellent curriculum and providing us with enriched faculty.
Above all we would like to thank Almighty to bless us with such a learned and knowledgeable supervisor and such parents of us for their profound support in the pursuit of this thesis and help us to go on with our educational success.
